Teaches Violin & Viola
Locale East London, South East London, Central London, Surbtion.
I am a violin and viola teacher based in East London. I have experience teaching all levels, from young beginners to advanced students and adult learners.
Violin & Violababies and Erin
I was looking for a method that supported and solidified my teaching style in under 5’s. Stringbabies was perfect match – with each lesson encouraging the development of rhythm, pitch, co-ordination with a strong emphasis on note recognition and composition, all done in a fun and relaxed way!
My thoughts on teaching music
I believe that learning a musical instrument is extremely beneficial to a child’s development. Not only do they learn how to play the instrument, but they also develop essential skills in listening, reading, concentration, independent learning and self confidence, and it brings me great joy to be a part of this journey.
With over five years teaching experience, I have guided pupils through ABRSM exams with a 100% success rate. Exams, while not compulsory, are a great way to encourage students to work towards a goal.
I have a passion to pass on the knowledge and technique I have acquired and always adapt my teaching style to the individual whilst ensuring every lesson is varied, engaging and fun!
Musical experience
I began my musical life at the age of four, studying violin at the Junior Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I then received tuition from Edmund Wilson who successfully introduced me to the viola at the age of eight, and I has played it ever since, achieving my ABRSM Diploma with Harry Cawood whilst at school.
I continued my studies with renowned violist Rivka Golani at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where I completed my master’s degree with distinction.
I was gratefully supported at Trinity Laban by the Stanley Picker Trust, a Trinity College London Scholarship and the Shield Award. Whilst at Trinity, I participated in masterclasses with violists Martin Outram, Jiri Zigmund and Aleksander Milosev and in September 2014 travelled to Budapest to take part in masterclasses and concerts at the Liszt Academy with Laszlo Barsonay.
I ama keen orchestral musician, and successfully gained a place in the 2017 Southbank Sinfonia, acting as shared principal viola in a number of projects, including side-by-side performances with the Academy of Saint Martin In The Fields and as solo viola in ‘La Tragedie de Carmen’ with the ROH Jette Parker Young Artist Programme. I have since enjoyed a varied freelancing career. Recent performances include Shadwell Opera’s performance of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, and supporting ABC on their UK tour.
I am an avid chamber musician and with my ensemble the Camilli Quartet, won the Trinity Laban John Barbirolli Competition for Beethoven String Quartets in January 2015, and achieved a place on the Richard Carne Trust Mentorship Programme in partnership with the Carducci and Wihan Quartets.
I have played in many prestigious venues in the UK and abroad, including Hoddinot Hall, St David’s Hall, the Sage Gateshead, the Royal Albert Hall, the Berlin Konzerthaus and Carnegie Hall and was the winner of the 2014 Vera Kantrovich Prize for Solo Bach and the 2016 City Livery Club Music Prize
