I have been teaching music since 1983, both as a peripatetic and classroom music teacher.

Violin, Viola, Cellobabies and Kate

I have recently completed a StringBabies course and I am teaching younger pupils using this method.  I find that StringBabies certainly helps them to develop sight reading and compositional skills.  Children find the visual elements using the whiteboard and magnetic shapes both fascinating and easy to grasp.

My thoughts on teaching music

I believe in teaching in a flexible way that best suits the pupil, but I also work to a graded syllabus, having experience in both ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and Trinity College.

I also make use of the ABRSM Music Medals scheme which I believe encourages players to develop ensemble playing as well as their musicality.

I always try to improve my own music knowledge and practice as I believe it keeps my teaching ideas up to date and my attitude enthusiastic.
