Julie Reynolds

Qualifications: MA DipRsamd (4 Year Performance)

Teaches Violin, Viola, Piano

Locale: Burghead, Moray

I studied violin and piano at the Rsamd where I won the Hilda Bailey prize and Governor’s recital prize.

I have freelanced since with the BBCSSO, Scottish Opera, the Rsno, Scottish Ballet and the Scottish Chamber orchestra. I have also played with the Welsh National Opera, the Northern Sinfonia and the Oxford Philharmoniic, recording with Vengarov.

I have also played in backing bands and recorded with artistes such as Paige and Plant, Rod Stewart, Dionne Warwick, Simple Minds, Texas and Belle and Sebastion.

In the last few years I have been getting into traditional music more.

As well as playing I have a lot of teaching experience, having worked for various Council schools, Rsamd Youthworks, Glasgow City YMI and private schools such as Mary Erskine and Stewart Melvilles, George Heriots and Gordonstoun.

Stringbabies and Julie

I was drawn to Stringbabies because starting students at a younger age is good as they are more maliable plus they get to compose and use soft toys!

My teaching style

I teach all ages, classical and traditional. Good basic technique is very important and I like to use various tutor books, being lead by the pupil’s preferences.

I like lessons to be relaxed and fun and students to feel they are being supported and allowed to go at their own pace.

I don’t insist students enter for exams , that is entirely their own choice.
