I am a friendly, enthusiastic music teacher based in Aberdeenshire.

Violin, Violababies and Sharon

Stringbabies is a wonderful way to introduce younger children to the joys of playing stringed instruments.  All the basics, including sight reading and composition, are taught using fun and imaginative games.  These games lead completely naturally to playing using standard music notation.  It is a really fun and exciting approach to string teaching for young children.

My thoughts on teaching music

My lessons are always tailored to the individual and their needs and aspirations.  Some of my pupils work towards exams (I use Trinity College exams – I am also the Aberdeen/shire representative for Trinity) whilst others play for their own enjoyment.

I aim to teach holistically, creating well-rounded, enthusiastic musicians who share my passion for music.

I encourage pupils to play with others and have pupils who play in county and national level orchestras.

I also encourage pupils to participate in my summer and Christmas concerts.

Musical experience

I have played the violin since I was 6 years old.  Whilst at school I also learnt to play the recorder, piano and trumpet.  More recently I have learnt to play the viola.

I have played in lots of orchestras and bands over the years.  Currently I lead my local orchestra, the Deeside Orchestra.

I have a Post Graduate Certificate in String Teaching and a degree in Music/Electronics.  I have an ATCL in violin performance and I’ve passed graded exams in viola, piano and trumpet.

I have taught music on and off since I was a teenager.  After initially pursuing a career in IT, I had my family and moved to Malaysia for a few years.  While living in Malaysia and receiving lots of teaching requests, I started teaching again.

Since being back in Aberdeenshire, I have built up my teaching practice and now have 10 years teaching experience with my pupils ranging from young children to older adults.  I teach individuals or small groups in my dedicated music studio.
