Violinbabies and Rachel

The stringbabies method is fun, engaging, and encourages children to explore within the learning process. It covers all the bases for musical development. Each lesson builds on and reinforces key skills in an imaginative and exciting way for young children. I find the visual, kinaesthetic, and holistic approach that stringbabies offers invaluable.

My thoughts on teaching music

I always aim to adapt lessons drawing on the children’s individual responses. It’s important they leave each session with a sense of achievement.

Musical experience

Rachel took up violin lessons at school aged 7yrs. Alongside her classical studies she developed an interest in folk music. Whilst studying music at Bath Spa University she performed with the reformed English progressive rock band Stackridge. Following this Rachel has worked with many songwriters including Judy Dyble, Anthony John Clarke, Sarah Menage and folk guitarist Tim Graham on various albums, tours and performances. She founded the Bath Spa University Folk Ensemble and ran a series of workshops for children entitled Storytelling Strings. More recently Rachel enjoys writing string arrangements, recording and performing as a member of the band Big Big Train. Based in North Norfolk where she spent her childhood, she teaches violin and performs with various local music organisations including the North Norfolk Sinfonia.
